What We Do

Newbury Hall School exists to help young people from overseas to grow into successful adults with good social skills, self-discipline, high self-esteem and strong academic credentials.

We believe that young people develop best in a structured and orderly environment which takes account of their individual needs.

At Newbury Hall School, we start teaching each student in each subject from the level of that student's own development in that field. We do not follow an arbitrary curriculum which tries to fit all students into the same pattern of knowledge.

  • We talk to the students every day in order to gain understanding and build a connection.
  • We constantly monitor student progress in learning, social life, health and happiness.
  • We provide counselling, extra tuition and informal guidance to every student that can benefit from them.
  • We provide free one to one lessons for students who need them.
  • We do our best to provide any out-of-school activities that a student wishes to try.

Teaching

When we are planning our lessons we take account of what the student already knows. That means that we find out what teaching they may have missed, or not understood fully, in their previous schooling. In this way we are able to identify and fill gaps. Students who are experiencing difficulties in any subject, or in any part of any subject, are given additional tuition to help them to catch up.

Motivation

We know that motivation is the key to learning, and although we do not claim to know the secret of motivating every teenager, we do know many ways in which students can be helped to find their own interests and passions. We appreciate that the teenage years can be a period of great confusion as well as great excitement, and we look at every student and the totality of their needs, and map the possibilities for their individual development.

Great Staff

To serve this end we ensure that there are always trained staff ready to offer advice and help. We draw on the best expertise for identifying learning difficulties or emotional difficulties which may have remained hidden. We offer appropriate help where it is needed.

English Language & Reporting

One of our areas of particular strength is in the key area of growing students’ English language skills and we are able to draw on a wealth of experience and techniques for developing this.

We are proud of the quality and frequency of our reporting (twice every term), and the short turnaround times we have for responding to parental queries.
